Camp Counselor
Camp Counselors (also referred to as General Counselors) are the first level of support for the campers in their assigned bunk. These college-aged men and women serve as the big brother/big sister, parent, and 24/7 role model for the 10-14 campers in their assigned bunk. Each age division at camp is made up of two to three bunks. Consequently, Cabin Counselors support the entire group of 36-40 campers while at activity periods and throughout the course of their daily program.
The primary function of the Cabin Counselor is to build relationships with their campers and to create positive energy and fun within their bunks. Additionally, thoughtful care of the campers is an important aspect of the job. Cabin Counselors focus on all the details of the campers’ physical and emotional well-being, including any medical, dietary, and social needs, to be sure that all necessary guidance and support is provided. The Cabin Counselor is trained and supported by their Group Leader (sometimes called, “Division Leader”) and Head Counselor.
Applicants must be energetic, patient, a positive role model, detail-orientated, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and have a proven ability to work effectively with others.
Activity Staff
The Activity Specialist (sometimes called, “Specialty Counselor”) has the unique role of instructing in their area of expertise while also working with a group of campers in their assigned bunk.
These college-aged men and women bring their skill, energy, and passion for their specialty area to camp. The Activity Specialist works under the direction of the Area Director (or, “Area Leader”), Head of Areas, and any Directors of their program area. Activity Specialists recognize the need to be able to work with both the skilled and unskilled camper in their activity. Our “success based on attitude over aptitude” approach is used as the foundation for every program. We look to foster growth and develop confidence in our campers by surrounding them with Activity Specialists that match our philosophy.
When Activity Specialists are not instructing at their area of expertise, they work and travel with their assigned bunk group. During these times, the Area Specialist effectively serves in the role of Cabin Counselor, ensuring the campers’ physical and emotional well-being. In this role, the Activity Specialist is trained and supported by their Group Leader (or “Division Leader”) and Head Counselor.
Applicants must be skilled in the specialty area, detail-oriented, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and have a proven ability to work effectively with others.
